Blue Ice
Explorer has four different boats for passenger transport. They
are all certified to sail with passengers in Greenland, all
year round with no restrictions (i.e. no restrictions for sailing
in ice etc)
Puttut
Puttut is our mascot. She is the most charming boat one can
imagine! She is built in 1958 in Holbæk, Denmark. She
is built for Greenlandic conditions, which means she is made
of thick oak planks strengthen with aluminium plates. She has
been used as "travel boat" transporting doctors, officials,
artisans etc from towns to villages and small settlements. Today
Puttut has got a new life as tour boat! She is mainly used for
the shorter transfers between Narsarsuaq and Qassiarsuk/Itilleq,
and especially for the boat trip to the ice fjord. We serve
coffee and tea on board, and in bad weather, you can go under
deck.
She makes 8 knot and carries 12 passengers.
Polarfox
Polarfox is a faster boat made of fibreglass. She is an experienced
boat, and has made many trips in South Greenland. In fair weather,
you can sit outside in front as well as behind the wheelhouse.
Otherwise, there is a saloon with tables under deck. We serve
coffee and tea on board.
She makes 12 knot and carries 12 passengers.
Nilak
Nilak means "blue ice" in Greenlandic. She sailed
her first season in 2008. She represents speed, luxury and quality!
(It is a Targa 37, built in Finland) The spacious saloon has
comfortable seats and large windows with good views.
She makes 25 Knots and carries 12 passengers.
Iluliaq
Iluliaq (meaning "iceberg") is the sister of Nilak
with the same qualities! She sailed her first season in 2009.
As with Nilak, she is mainly used for the longer transfers between
Narsarsuaq, Narsaq and Qaqortoq as well as charter tours.
She makes 25 Knots and carries 12 passengers. |
